Zwift Running

Zwift Running: Setup, Workouts, and Races in 2026

The cycling world knows Zwift, but Zwift Running is a quietly strong indoor training platform. Here is how to set it up, what gear you need, and how it stacks up against Peloton, Nike, and the rest.

What Zwift Running Is

Zwift Running is an indoor virtual running platform. You put on a foot pod, start your treadmill, and your pace controls a runner avatar in a 3D world with other users from around the globe running at the same time.

Unlike Zwift Cycling which is a paid subscription, Zwift Running is free while the team iterates on features. This has made it a no-brainer tool for runners who already run indoors.

Workouts, races, and group runs are available daily. Group events give you drafting and avatar packs for motivation. The running community on Zwift is smaller than cycling but growing.

Zwift Running Setup in 6 Steps

1

Get a foot pod or smart treadmill

The Zwift RunPod ($30) or Stryd ($220) clips to your shoe. Some smart treadmills broadcast directly.

2

Install Zwift

Zwift runs on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Mac, Windows. Tablet or big screen gives the best immersion.

3

Pair devices

Open Zwift, tap the running silhouette, and pair your foot pod and (optional) heart rate monitor via Bluetooth.

4

Pick a world

Watopia for variety, New York for urban. You can only run when the world is open for running, check the calendar.

5

Start a workout or free run

Free run lets you explore. Workouts follow a structured pace and incline protocol.

6

Sync to Strava

Turn on Strava integration in settings to auto-upload every session.

Apple Fitness+

Guided treadmill runs

Clean interface, good instructors, integrated with Apple Watch. Subscription-based.

Nike Run Club

Indoor guided runs

Free audio-led runs that work on any treadmill. No avatar or gaming, but no setup needed either.

Motera

Outdoor gamified runs

Pair with Zwift by running outdoors on good days and indoors on bad weather days. Motera turns outdoor runs into real-world territory battles.

Kinomap

Real-world video routes

Motera
For Outdoor Days

Zwift for rain. Motera for sun.
